Copernicon 2026 Turns Toruń’s Old Town Into a Festival of Fantasy and Fandom

For three days each September, Toruń's Old Town becomes a meeting place for fantasy, games, science and popular culture.

The 15th edition of Copernicon will bring fans of fantasy, games, literature, pop culture and science to Toruń from September 18–20, 2026.

What makes the festival distinctive is its close relationship with the city. Taking place across several buildings in Toruń's Old Town and surrounding areas, including venues belonging primarily to Nicolaus Copernicus University, Copernicon turns movement through the city into part of the festival experience.

Across three days, the programme brings together lectures, meetings with artists, RPG sessions, board games, workshops and shows. The festival also hosts the region's largest pop culture fair, creating a broad programme for different parts of the fandom community.

Copernicon has been held in Toruń since 2010 and in recent years has attracted more than 4,000 people to the city's Old Town. Its 15th edition continues a tradition built around the idea of fans creating an event for other fans.

That spirit goes back to the Thorn Association of Fantasy and Game Enthusiasts, the festival's main organiser. The association was founded in 2012 by a group of friends interested in board games, role-playing games, fantasy and related forms of popular culture. Its original aim was to share those interests by organising a fantasy convention in Toruń while retaining the name Copernicon.

Today, the festival brings that community well beyond the convention buildings themselves. Participants moving between venues interact with Toruń's public spaces, giving the event a distinctly urban character.

For the volunteers and wider community who create Copernicon, that connection between fandom and place remains central. Toruń provides the setting, but the festival's identity has been built through the people who come together to share their interests.
